KHOODEELAAR! Telling the London EVENING STANDARD blogger Ross Lydall: We told you [plural] so! We told about how disastrous the 2012 Hosting were for East London. We told this for 7 years before today’s latest unravelling of the Olympics Delivery Authority.....
As the Organiser since January 2004 of he Khoodeelaar! campaign against Big Business agenda Crossrail in defence of the East End of London, I have made a significantly large number of communications to central Government as well as to the East London borough of Tower Hamlets Council telling them about all key aspects of their policies that were failing to address the economic, educational, environmental needs and priorities of the area and its peoples.
In 2007, I reiterated to the full session [= 'Full Council'] of Tower Hamlets council the diagnosis that the 2012 Games Hosting would leave most of the East End people out of the so-called jobs bonanza that the peddlers of the multi£Billion costing project were flaunting.
The truth is that Tower Hamlets and the other so-called Olympic Boroughs [including Newham and Hackney] have never been democratically competent enough to address the application of their own resources, far less represent any tenable status to pan London operations demanding that the latters take them truly seriously on a sustainable policy and allocations of resources level..
Most of the rows and the arguments this year have been over the wasteful adventures indulged in by the Olympics Delivery Authority and their collaborators...
Extrapolate across 40 years this same de facto impotence by the so-called democratic local authorities and you begin to see why Ken Livingstone felt so bold and confident in April 2008 to boast on the BBC Question Time [‘Mayoral special’ edition, hosted by David Dimbleby] that he had LIED to get London bag the 2012 Hosting and that he had LIED because that had been the only way to bring giant and unsustainable construction activities to the run down [paraphrased here] East London which would otherwise not be given any similar chance of regeneration for decades!
Dimbleby did not rigorously quiz Livingstone on that £Billion boast. And no mainstream media organ since then has examined the impact of everything that Livingstone said in that confession!
With evidence of ‘democratic accountability like THAT’ on show on the mainstream media, what chance is there that the East End let alone the rest of London or the public elsewhere in the UK is going to get any accountability?
Condemn that legacy of real cynical abuse of office and power and then CONDEMN the CON-DEM cuts!
And also demand to know why there has been such a major resignation at the ODA today.
